Kristin Bellinger, Special Education Teacher Accused of Raping 13-Year-Old Student She Was Tutoring

According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department, a Johnstown woman accused of raping a 13-year-old kid she was tutoring handed herself into authorities on Monday.

After a lengthy investigation, Kristin M. Bellinger, 39, of Johnstown, was charged with second-degree rape, a class D felony. She is charged with having repeated sex with a young male in 2019.

According to deputies, Bellinger was giving the youngster tutoring outside of her responsibilities as a special education instructor at the Hamilton-Fulton-Montgomery BOCES at the time.

The charges were initially brought up by the student with HFM BOCES administrators. The district said in a news release on Tuesday that the state Education Department, the student’s family, and the police were alerted right away.

After the student came forward, Bellinger was immediately put on leave and is no longer working for HFM BOCES.

“After these disturbing allegations were brought to our attention, we took immediate steps to address them and cooperated fully with law enforcement,” HFM BOCES District Superintendent David Ziskin said in a prepared statement.

On Monday, Bellinger turned herself into the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department pursuant to an arrest warrant while being escorted by her attorney. Following her arraignment before Judge James Law in Glen Town Court, she was eventually freed on a $15,000 bail.

Bellinger will show up in Glen Town Court once more in the future. The New York State Police Forensic Investigation Center and Montgomery County District Attorney Lorraine Diamond provided support to members of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

“We thank the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this matter. HFM BOCES will continue to aid law enforcement in every way we can,” Ziskin said in a prepared statement.
