Trey Cabler, a former debate coach at Bartlesville High School, was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly supplying cocaine and alcohol to female students, according to court filings.

Cabler was charged with giving alcohol to an underage person and delivering a controlled dangerous substance within 2,000 feet of a park or school in Washington County District Court.

According to a probable cause affidavit, the speech and debate teacher was accused of contacting two female students via Snapchat and text on a daily basis, attempting to persuade them to come to his apartment, and delivering drink to one and cocaine to the other on many occasions.

Cabler’s lawyer declined to comment on the allegations.

The Bartlesville Public School District announced Cabler’s resignation on March 25, citing an ongoing investigation into alleged misbehavior. The district declined to go into depth about the allegations in its statement.

Cabler pled not guilty on Tuesday, and District Judge Linda Thomas set his bond at $50,000, with the restriction that he have no contact with the alleged victims, former BHS students, or unrelated children.

Officer Brett Miquelon of the Bartlesville Police Department said in an affidavit that the students came forward separately to report Cabler’s behavior. Cabler invited one of the minors to his place to “get day drunk,” but she rejected. Cabler did not confess this, although he did admit to providing her with alcohol three times.

According to the affidavit, the other student, an 18-year-old, informed Miquelon she had confided in Cabler about her history of substance addiction in the hopes of not being judged. According to the affidavit, she suffered with cocaine, fentanyl, and Xanax addictions and went to treatment during her junior year of high school.

According to the complaint, Cabler texted the student in March, inviting her to come to his residence and use cocaine with him. She initially refused, but later agreed after he persisted in pressing the issue. According to the student, she went to Cabler’s apartment complex and was given half a gram of cocaine.

The student said in the affidavit that she did not go into Cabler’s apartment that day because she was afraid of being raped. Cabler denied Miquelon’s request for a second interview to discuss the second student’s charges, according to Miquelon.

Cabler’s next court appearance is scheduled for May 13 at 9 a.m.

Cabler graduated from BHS in 2013 and began teaching there in 2020. In October, the Bartlesville Alumni Association featured him on their podcast “Teacher’s Pet,” which focuses on education.
