A Fresno Unified elementary school teacher was detained by Fresno police for allegedly having sex with students; this is his second detention in a month.

Robert William Duprey was detained by the police on Thursday on suspicion of sexual assault and child abuse.

A first arrest for allegedly having sexual and lecherous behavior with a minor under the age of 14 resulted from their investigation into the Wolters Elementary School teacher in June.

Duprey was released on bail the same day and hasn’t been charged.

However, authorities said that after the reported arrest, at least two additional alleged victims came forward.

“As the investigators kept probing in this case, they found additional evidence,” said legal analyst Tony Capozzi. “Not only additional evidence, they found additional victims.”

Capozzi said those new reports of sexual abuse by Duprey are critical for building a criminal case.

“It’s always important that additional people come forward,” he said. “That’s why it’s important for these stories to be put out on the news so people know what’s happened here. When other people hear this, the other victims come forward and that adds credence to the first case.”

With at least three accusers, according to Capozzi, a judge might conclude that the 33-year-old teacher is a risk to the community and shouldn’t be allowed to get a bailout again.

Since 2014, Duprey has been a full-time instructor at Wolters.

According to a spokeswoman for Fresno Unified, the district put him on administrative leave in November 2021, and his situation hasn’t changed since then.

Because the accused victims are so young, police aren’t divulging many specifics about the allegations.

However, they have been looking into Duprey at least since 2019, when the mother of an alleged victim mentioned.

She provided us a statement, but we won’t mention her by name to protect the privacy of her son.

“I’m grateful that justice is being served, but my heart breaks for the innocent children that went through what they went through,” she said. “No child should ever have to experience that. Our schools are supposed to be a safe place for our kids.”

Charges against Duprey have not yet been brought by the district attorney’s office, although they might as early as next week.
