David Schroeder, Middle School Teacher in Grafton Charged with Terrorist Threats against Students and Families

A shocking incident unfolded at John Long Middle School in Grafton as a middle school teacher, David Schroeder, 46, faces charges of making terrorist threats against his own students and their families. The charges of terrorist threats – create risk of causing result were filed against Schroeder in the Ozaukee County Circuit Court.

The arrest of Schroeder came after a student informed his parents that Schroeder was furious with the seventh-grade class when he discovered a swastika drawn on a notebook. According to the criminal complaint, Schroeder berated the entire class, deeming the drawing inappropriate. Disturbingly, he allegedly expressed his ill-will towards the students and their families by stating, “I wish pain on all of you and your families.”

The complaint further revealed Schroeder’s alarming threats, stating, “The defendant told the students that he would have his daughter come to their homes with a baseball bat,” and proclaimed he would “go scorched earth on them.”

During the court proceedings, the prosecutor expressed particular concern over Schroeder’s mention of owning a number of firearms. According to the complaint, Schroeder claimed he was Jewish, asserting that “all Jews have guns” and boasted about having 17 guns in his basement, threatening to “F” them up.

Multiple students reported that Schroeder was screaming and yelling while making these menacing statements, as stated in the complaint.

Prosecutors disclosed that the principal had a conversation with Schroeder, during which he admitted his anger and threatened to “come after” the students, vowing to “scorch their earth.” Subsequently, Schroeder was escorted out of the school. However, Assistant District Attorney Benjamin Lindsay revealed that the school failed to contact law enforcement during this time.

It was only after concerned parents contacted the police over an hour later, expressing their worries about their children’s safety with Schroeder present in the community and his access to guns, that law enforcement became involved. The police arrived at the school, resulting in the early dismissal of the entire class.

According to the principal, Schroeder had already been under investigation for “other concerning or inappropriate behavior towards students,” and the school district had already determined that his contract would not be renewed for the next academic year.

Schroeder is currently in custody with a cash bail set at $10,000. As a condition of his bail, he is required to surrender any dangerous weapons to the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office.

His next court appearance is scheduled for June, where further legal proceedings will take place in this deeply troubling case.
