McKenzie Center for Innovation & Technology teacher Mekhi Dupre Lewis, 23, was arrested in a child solicitation sting operation in April, according to a press release by the Lawrence Township.
Lewis was arrested for Child Solicitation, a Level 4 Felony, during the sting operation conducted by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, the Franklin Police Department, and the Edinburgh Police Department. The operation, held from Tuesday, April 18 – Thursday, April 20, led to the arrest of 32 people from all around the state, including Lewis.
The investigation was operated in the 300 block of E. Countyline Rd. in Greenwood.
The Lawrence Township district issued a statement, stating that they were cooperating with the authorities in the investigation. While they were unable to comment on the specifics of the case due to it being a personnel matter, they confirmed that the termination process of Lewis has begun. Lewis has not returned to the school.
According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, this sting operation was part of a series of operations initiated by the department and its partnering police departments. Since December 2020, a total of 81 suspects have been arrested in child sex stings.
Prosecutor Lance Hamner, who has been involved in the investigation, said that “We are committed to protecting the children of our county by putting a stop to the sick and perverted practice of soliciting children for sex.”
Lewis’ arrest serves as a reminder that law enforcement agencies will continue to work tirelessly to bring justice to the perpetrators of such heinous crimes and protect children from potential harm.
