According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, a former teacher at Jefferson Parish’s Athlos Academy was detained and charged with indecent behavior with a child after allegedly attempting to kiss a student.
Tokeby Mixon, 35, of Harvey, was apprehended on December 21, according to Capt. Jason Rivarde, a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office.

According to Athlos Executive Director Cheryl Martin, Mixon had worked at the Terrytown charter school for three years.
“Once notified of the allegation, we immediately notified local authorities and placed [Mixon] on leave,” Martin said.
She claimed that after the school launched an internal investigation, Mixon was fired.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Mixon was employed as a social-emotional learning specialist at the school, which educates children from kindergarten through eighth grade, at the time of the alleged event. Mixon is listed as a third-grade teacher on the school’s website.
On November 3, a 14-year-old kid complained to a school administrator that Mixon had tried to kiss and tickle him without his consent. As soon as the school called the sheriff’s office, detectives got to work.
Mixon was taken into custody at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center after investigators with the sheriff’s office obtained a warrant for his arrest. On a $10,000 bond, he was let out of the Gretna jail on Tuesday.
Martin claims that prior to the alleged incident on November 3, Athlos Academy had not received any prior complaints against Mixon.
