Karen Vinick, CREC Academy of Computer Science and Engineering Middle School teacher accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student

According to the police, a CREC teacher in East Hartford is accused of having an improper contact with a pupil and is now facing charges.

Authorities said that while working as a teacher at CREC Academy of Computer Science and Engineering Middle School, Karen Vinick, 34, was reportedly having an illicit relationship with a student.

On June 12, police claimed, detectives began looking into a report of the relationship.

Vinick was immediately placed on administrative leave by the principal, according to the authorities. She has left her position at the institution.

“Staff reported during a drama club sleepover at the school, they observed Vinick and the student lying together under the same blanket,” East Hartford police said. “Detectives were able to check the video of the Great Hall in the school, and were able to confirm the staff’s allegations.”

Vinick contacted and texted the student, according to investigators. Over the course of several months, Vinick called the student numerous times.

“There were no reports or evidence of sexual contact between Vinick and the student,” said East Hartford police.

Vinick was detained after being charged with endangering a minor. Upon posting a $150,000 bond, she was freed.
