Marcos Jesus Espinoza, John Kelley Elementary fourth grade teacher arrested, suspected of being drunk in class

Deputies from Thermal Station responded to the 87100 block of Center Street in Thermal on Friday, September 30, 2022, at 2:54 PM in response to complaints of an intoxicated teacher on the grounds of a nearby school.

A pupil in a classroom called their parent to report that they thought their teacher was drunk and the other students in the class were scared of the teacher. While they waited for police enforcement, school administrators and campus security approached the teacher and had him removed from the classroom.

Marcos Jesus Espinoza, a 44-year-old Palm Desert resident, and teacher at the school, was found to be under the influence of alcohol and to have ingested it while educating kids, according to the inquiry. Espinoza was detained at the John Benoit Detention Center for child endangerment, public intoxication, and possession of alcohol on school property.
