According to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, a former teacher in Halifax County was detained on Wednesday for having lewd interactions with a student.
The crimes were uncovered, according to the Sheriff’s Office, after the victim’s relatives informed them of them. Rashad Hakim Mayer, age 26, was the victim’s teacher at the time of the incidents, according to deputies.
Mayers no longer holds a job; he was a teacher at KIPP Halifax.
Mayers was accused of two charges of indecent liberties with a student and two counts of indecent liberties with a minor, according to the website of the North Carolina Judicial Branch.
On Wednesday, Mayers turned himself into the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. He was freed after posting a $50,000 bond.
