On Thursday, a teacher from Orange County was detained on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl.
Joseph Frances Deluca, 47, of Irvine, was detained by Santa Ana Police on suspicion of sexually assaulting a minor.
When Deluca is accused of touching the 10-year-old girl improperly within the classroom, he is allegedly working as a substitute teacher at Edison Elementary School in Santa Ana.
When the assault was reported to the police, they were able to locate Deluca at Tustin’s Robert Heideman Elementary School.
Prior to transitioning to substitute teaching two years ago, Deluca had been employed as a full-time teacher for the previous 15 years, according to the police.
Given that Deluca has taught at a number of elementary and middle schools, authorities suspect there may be further victims.
