Michael Montgomery, who served as the head coach of Thompson High School from 2012 to 2014 as well as a coach and current business instructor at Calera High School, was detained on September 14 on suspicion of having sex with a minor while performing school-related duties and has since posted a $30,000 bond.

Chief David Hyche with the Calera Police Department said that the investigation into Montgomery’s alleged misconduct began when the school contacted a CPD school resource officer in March. After which, the department assigned a detective to investigate.

According to Montgomery’s indictment, he engaged in sexual intercourse as described by Section 13A-6-60 of the Code of Alabama while residing in Shelby County and working as a school employee.

The warrant of arrest was issued on Sept. 8.
