Thomas Rivera, Steele High School arrested for having ‘improper relationship’ with student

According to Cibolo police, a teacher who works for San Antonio ISD was detained after he was discovered texting a pupil inappropriate text messages.

According to police, Thomas Rivera, 35, of San Antonio, has been charged with a second-degree felony for having an inappropriate contact with a student.

The 16-year-old girl who received the messages from Rivera is a student at Steele High School. She allegedly complained about Rivera to a school supervisor on Thursday, September 22 after receiving what she believed to be inappropriate text messages from him.

The administrator then reported the incident to the Steele HS-assigned Cibolo PD School Resource Officer. Detectives from Cibolo police also became involved in the inquiry.

According to the police, Rivera was a teacher at Clemens and Steele high schools in the past and is currently employed by San Antonio ISD.

He was detained by Cibolo police at Lanier High School before being transported to the Guadalupe County Jail.

He was still in arrest as of Friday night about 8 o’clock, according to the police, and no bond had been set.

Authorities want parents to talk to Rivera’s previous and present students as they investigate whether there were any further victims.
