A teacher at White Knoll Middle School has been detained and accused of assaulting a pupil.
The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department has filed charges of third-degree assault and battery against Brenda Dean Inabinette, 58.
The incident between the student and Inabinette last Thursday was disclosed by the student in this case to an assistant principal at White Knoll Middle School, according to Sheriff Jay Koon. The student said that he returned to the wrong classroom by mistake after using the restroom, which led to his interaction with Inabinette.
The warrant claims that Inabinette told the student, “You make me want to strangle you,” while grabbing his ID lanyard from around his neck.
The teenager was described by the assistant principal as “physically and emotionally distressed.”
On Tuesday morning, Inabinette turned herself in. The Lexington County Detention Center is where she is being detained.
According to representatives of Lexington District One, Inabinette was put on administrative leave as a result of the event on August 25.
