Jasmine Murphy, Northwood High School teacher charged with sex crimes, extortion against student

A teacher in Chatham County is accused of numerous offenses, including child sex crimes.

Jasmine Shabrika Murphy, 27, of Windsor, was accused of cyberstalking, extortion, and engaging in improper behavior with a student.

According to the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, they were informed on May 31 of offensive texts and verbal exchanges between a teacher and a pupil. Murphy was a teacher at Northwood High School at the time.

Murphy was detained on September 2 according to the sheriff’s office after an investigation. Murphy is no longer employed by the school district, according to a spokeswoman. Murphy was listed as a family and consumer science instructor in the district’s directory.

Murphy will show up in court at the end of the month.
