Lawrence Costella, Atholton High School special education teacher faces child pornography charges
According to school officials, a special education teacher in Howard County has been detained and is accused of using child pornography.
According to a letter from the school’s administrator, Robert Motley, Lawrence Costella, a special education teacher at Atholton High School in Columbia, Maryland, was detained on Wednesday in Baltimore County and is accused of possessing and disseminating child pornography.
In his second year at the institution, Costella, according to Motley, has already undergone a criminal background check and fingerprinting.
“He was immediately placed on administrative leave following the announcement of these charges and is not permitted on school property pending the outcome of the investigation and criminal case,” Motley said adding that a substitute will take over Costella’s classroom until further notice.
