John Layton was arrested after he answered an online escort advertisement and agreed to pay $40 for a sex act.
The West Orange High coach who was detained during a seven-day human trafficking investigation by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office has resigned.
Layton left his position as a coach on September 8th, according to Michael Ollendorff, the media relations manager for Orange County Public Schools.
Before being elevated to head coach in 2019, Layton worked as an assistant cross country coach. He was arrested after responding to an online escort advertisement and agreeing to pay $40 for a sex act. He was dressed in a track and field shirt when he arrived at the sting location.
Layton inquired about the length of the arrest, according to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, because he had a morning track practice.
“No, the students have track practice in the morning,” Judd said. “You have jail practice in the morning.”
Cameron Burke of Ocoee and Guillermo Perez of Winter Garden were also detained in the “Fall Haul 2” operation, which resulted in the arrest of 160 persons, including Layton.
