A Carrollwood Day School teacher has been detained by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office on suspicion of sexual misconduct.
English instructor Jamie Melton, 42, of Carrollwood Day School, 1515 W. Bearss Avenue. In September, engaged in sexual relations with a student.
Probable cause was established and a warrant for Melton was obtained on September 10, 2022. On September 11, 2022, she was detained for sexual battery.
Melton told the teen that her spouse would be out of town on several dates and the victim told police that they planned to meet, the warrant said.
Last Friday, the victim went to Melton’s house, where the teacher laid down on her bed before the teenager climbed on top of her and the two started kissing, according to court documents.
Once on a couch, they continued their sexual activities, which was omitted from the report.
Melton, 42, instructed the student to delete every text message they had exchanged, but detectives claim they were able to recover a number of suggestive remarks that helped with their inquiry.
In one chat, Melton tells the student that she’s hungry. The victim then asks her what she would like to eat.
Melton responded, “You.
Melton got in touch with the student following their tryst on September 9.
She wrote, “I’m falling asleep where we shared our intimacy,” the police said.
Additionally, according to the records, Melton was close friends with the victim’s father, who eventually informed the educator’s wife and the police of the unlawful relationship after learning of it.
“This woman was a trusted member of this community who was responsible for the education and well-being of students, instead she violated that trust,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “As a parent, I am disgusted and hope she faces the full consequences of her actions.”
Melton previously taught at Bloomingdale High School as an English teacher for 10 years. She also is certified in English and ESOL, received her Bachelor of Arts in English from Florida Atlantic University, and earned her Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from Nova Southeastern University. In addition, was also a collegiate athlete during her time at FAU.
