Elizabeth Bailey, Northview Academy teacher arrested for sex with student invited the same student over while on house arrest
Authorities in North Carolina have confirmed that a former science teacher, 36, who was detained last month on suspicion of sexually abusing a pupil is now back in jail after reportedly disobeying a court order prohibiting her from contacting the alleged victim.
The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office detained Elizabeth Suzanne Bailey on August 1 on charges of felony statutory rape, criminal indecent liberties with a minor, and felony sexual activity with a student.
After being detained, Bailey’s employment at Statesville’s Northview Academy was terminated.
Following an inquiry that started on July 20 when police got a tip about her alleged relationship with a pupil, she was taken into custody.
According to a statement from the sheriff’s office, one of the terms of the juvenile victim’s initial bond release was that she refrain from contacting her. She was placed on house arrest with electronic monitoring and a $75,000 bond.
However, according to the statement, officials discovered “the juvenile victim had been at Bailey’s apartment on nine occasions after her initial arrest.”
The age of the accused victim has not been disclosed.
Bailey is currently being jailed on an $800,000 bond after detectives added an additional 27 counts against her on Friday.
Nine counts of misdemeanor contributing to a minor’s delinquency as well as nine felony counts of intimidating or interfering with a state witness are included in the new accusations.
Nine counts of felonious pre-trial release condition violation are also brought against her.
Bailey had recently taught science at Northview Academy.
