Federal court is now hearing allegations of child pornography against a former Amory teacher who was first detained two years ago.
Toshemie Wilson, 46, is charged with providing cash and drugs to male students, then recording them while they engaged in sex acts either by themselves or with a blow-up doll. He was accused of having child pornography in his possession as well as producing it.
Wilson was ordered held in custody after making his initial appearance in federal court on Friday afternoon. At 3:27 PM, he was checked into the Lafayette County Detention Facility.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office demanded that he be held in custody until his trial. Sanders instead mandated Wilson’s release on a $10,000 unsecured bail, pending further procedures.
Wilson’s unlawful behavior with students allegedly started at least in 2005, according to the criminal complaint that was filed last week. With the Technical Students Association, he was a teacher.
Wilson’s actions were first discovered after a former pupil shared his account with a counselor in the first few days of November 2020. Wilson was examined by the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office at Amory High School two weeks later, and after a search turned up illegal substances in his car, Wilson was taken into custody. When his phone and other electronic devices were later searched, multiple pictures and videos of male Amory High School students engaging in sexual actions or postures were found.
Wilson’s home and a storage facility were searched the following May as a result of the investigation that followed. Investigators collected more than 300 things during the searches, including video cassettes with labels with known Amory High School students’ identities and sexual positions. Students from Amory signed nondisclosure agreements as well.
On May 20, 2021, Wilson was charged with one count of sexual exploitation of a child. Later, after posting a $250,000 bond, he was freed with the condition that he not speak to any of his victims or children.
Additionally, the Federal Bureau of Investigation started to investigate Wilson’s actions. Interviews with victims indicated that at least one student was just 16 and that Wilson allegedly paid up to $100 to videotape the pupils.
According to court documents, the recordings, which Wilson referred to as “experiments,” were shot on TSA travels, in Wilson’s vacant classroom, and at a studio Wilson rented next to a car dealership in Amory.
The FBI agent also observed that Wilson had made attempts to get in touch with his victims over social media within the previous month.
Wilson was named in a federal criminal complaint that was submitted on June 29. He hired Jamie Franks, an attorney in Tupelo, two days later.
