After being detained on several counts of causing serious bodily harm to a child, a former special education teacher who taught in a Longview ISD East Texas Advanced Academies classroom was released from jail on Monday.
Cecilia Gregg, a resident of Longview who turned 57 in May, was freed on $50,000 in bail after being indicted on eight separate counts of harming a child under the age of 14 on June 22.
Her arrest comes after three others made this past week in connection with the same investigation, all of whom were former employees of J.L. Everhart Elementary. Paula Hawkins Dixon, a former teacher’s assistant who will turn 59 on July 26, was charged with 11 separate counts of causing bodily harm to a minor.
Cassandra Both Linda Kaye Brown Lister, 60, a former assistant principal, and Renee James, 47, a former principal of J.L. Everhart Elementary, were indicted on a single charge of harming a child.
The investigation into the allegations of abuse started earlier this year after Cynthia Wise, the former CEO of East Texas Advanced Academies, abruptly resigned without explanation. Wise also received a lump-sum payout of $350,000.
The charter school East Texas Advanced Academies has six sites in the Longview ISD. East Texas Charter Schools on Alpine Road in Longview are not affiliated with ETAA.
