According to authorities, a teacher at a middle school in Norwalk was detained last month on charges that she had pulled a pupil across the classroom and caused him to fall.
York Mario, 61, a teacher at West Rocks Middle School in Orange, was detained on June 16 on suspicion of second-degree reckless endangerment and risk of injury, according to a news release from Police Sgt. Sofia Gulino.
A West Rocks student allegedly reported Mario to the police in November, causing the Special Victims Unit of the police force and the Department of Children and Families to conduct a thorough investigation.
According to the investigation, on October 29, Mario dragged a student who was sitting in a chair by the shoulder, forcing the student to fall to the ground, according to Gulino.
According to Gulino, Mario then dragged the student across the room as he clung to a different desk. Another student recorded a portion of the incident on film.
Police acquired an arrest warrant after talking to the Stamford Superior Court. On June 16, Mario himself in and was eventually freed after posting a $5,000 bond.
