A teacher at North Fort Myers Academy for the Arts has been placed on indefinite leave after being accused of dragging and hitting a student.
Ada Bromley, the instructor charged with dragging a student by the arm, picking up the student, and striking and pushing the child on the head in a hallway of the school on January 28, 2022, has a petition for dismissal signed by Chris Bernier, the superintendent of Lee County.
According to the petition, on January 28, an incident involving Bromley and a young student happened in a hallway at the North Fort Myers Academy for the Arts.
According to this petition for dismissal, surveillance video purports to capture first-grade instructor Bromley dragging a student by the arm, scooping the child up, and hitting and pushing the youngster on the head.
According to the district, Bromley has been employed by Lee County schools since 2006, and this isn’t her first problem.
According to the petition, Bromley received disciplinary action from the district in 2012 for providing false information on a form and again in 2018 for speaking to pupils politely.
In spite of the petition demanding Bromley’s dismissal, the school board decided to suspend her without pay while waiting for a Florida Division of Administrative Hearings hearing.
According to the school board, they will abide by any recommendations made by the Division of Administrative Hearings (DOAH).
The employee will be promptly reinstated and given back pay if the charges are not upheld following the DOAH hearing, according to Lee County School Board Attorney Kathy Dupuy-Bruno.
In the petition, Bromley explained the student was being difficult. Neither she nor her attorney attended Monday’s hearing.
