Andrew Clinton Snead, the director of the middle and high school band at Powhatan, is the subject of numerous investigations. Snead, 36, was detained last week on suspicion of abusing a child who was in his custody.
The alleged offenses, according to court documents, happened in April and May of 2022.
Some former Powhatan pupils experienced astonishment upon hearing of Snead’s arrest.
“At first I was like there’s no way it’s true. I couldn’t believe it – I really couldn’t,” former student Lauren Johnson said. “It’s hard to say anything without knowing anything because I looked up to him. He taught me everything I know.”
According to Crime Insider sources, Snead’s activities at May Memorial Baptist Church are unrelated to the accusations against him.
Snead “oversees all areas of the 500+ student instrumental music department at Powhatan Middle and High Schools, where his duties include leading two concert bands, a string orchestra, a symphony orchestra, several chamber ensembles, and the Powhatan High School Marching Band.”
“Everyone knows him. We live in a small town. If it is true, I’m so sorry to all the kids,” Johnson said. “I hope they’re OK. If he did this, I’m disappointed, utterly disappointed.”
