Detectives claim they discovered child pornography and proof of its dissemination on a computer inside a former Putnam County teacher’s Cumberland County residence, leading to his indictment.
Michael J. Phillips, 61, was taken into custody on Tuesday by officials with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children got a cybertip that photographic files with suspected child pornography may have been posted in the jurisdiction, according to the Office of District Attorney General, Bryant C. Dunaway.
In order to collect computers and other electronic equipment from Phillip’s house, investigators secured a search warrant.
Charges of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor and Aggravated Sexual Exploitation of a Minor have been brought against the former teacher in the Putnam County School System.
According to detectives, there is currently no proof that any children in Putnam or Cumberland County have been victims in this case.
Investigations are still ongoing in this situation. Please get in touch with the District Attorney General’s Office if you have any information that could help further.
