After pleading guilty to having an inappropriate relationship with a child, a former San Benito educator was sentenced.
After pleading guilty to one count of an illegal relationship between an instructor and a student, Eduardo Rendon, 31, was sentenced to eight years of deferred adjudication and 30 days in jail.
His second charge of having an improper relationship was dropped.
Rendon was charged with “engaging in sexual contact with [an IDEA San Benito student]… by stroking the complainant’s breast with the purpose to stimulate or please the defendant’s sexual desire” in May 2020.
Rendon was employed as an engineering instructor at the time of his arrest. He had harassed the pupil for a year and had been a teacher for five years.
Rendon was additionally charged with a second count of improper interaction with a student on a separate date with the same student after the incident on Sept. 15, 2019.
Judge Janet Leal described Rendon as a “predator” and recommended that he be evaluated for placement on the sex offender registry.
Rendon will not be permitted to work with or be in close proximity to children, teenagers, or young adults.
