Kenneth Gardner, a sixth-grade science teacher at Broadview Middle School charged with sexual assault

A Danbury couple has been arrested and charged with child sexual assault. One of the suspects was a middle school teacher, according to police.

Kenneth Gardner and his wife Lisa, both 51, are accused of sexually assaulting two women dating back to 2003, according to Danbury police. One of the victims did not come forward until lately.

The Gardners were detained last week by Danbury police and Homeland Security after an investigation that began in September, according to authorities.

“That led to search warrants being granted and executed in December,” said Detective Lt. Mark Williams, with Danbury police.

Kenneth Gardner is facing five counts of incest in addition to a long list of sexual assault accusations. His wife Lisa is charged with sexual assault conspiracy and criminal culpability.

Kenneth Gardner’s allegations, according to police, come from alleged acts that occurred more than 20 years ago.

“Oftentimes when we have sexual abuse cases, they’re usually delayed disclosures. Sometimes days, weeks, months, and in this case, years,” said Williams.

Kenneth Gardner, a sixth-grade science teacher at Broadview Middle School, resigned in February, according to Danbury police. According to police, no students at the school were harmed.

The specifics of sexual assault instances like this one, according to police, can be difficult for anyone to digest.

“They’re very difficult and they’re very damaging to our victims and so yes, our heart goes out to all of our victims,” said Williams.

One of the victims, the police suspect, is now an adult.

Court documents, in this case, are sealed until at least June 15.

The Gardners are scheduled to appear in court again later this month.
