A recent news release from the Iowa Department of Public Safety has indicated a West Harrison music teacher is suspected of inappropriate contact with six kids and has been charged with numerous counts of sexual exploitation by a school employee.
According to the press release, Benjamin J. Work faces five counts of sexual exploitation by a school employee, a Class D felony, five counts of lascivious conduct with a minor, a significant misdemeanor, and two instances of indecent contact with a child, an aggravated misdemeanor.

West Harrison is a rural region north of Council Bluffs on the Missouri River. In Mondamin, there are approximately 315 pupils in an elementary school and a combined middle and high school.
An allegation of suspected inappropriate contact between Work and a minor student was received by the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office on April 22, triggering an investigation by the sheriff’s office and agents from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. Work was placed on administrative leave by the district the following day. Though is still listed on the district’s website as a teacher.
Work allegedly had inappropriate contact with six minor pupils from the fall of 2021 through the spring of 2022, according to the inquiry.
On June 3, Work resigned from the district. He was apprehended and booked into the Harrison County Correctional Facility without incident on Friday at his home.
