According to the incident report from the Travelers Rest Police Department, John Joseph Gulius, 46, of Greenville, was detained at the Walmart on Benton Drive on Sunday morning.

According to the report, Gulius is charged with two counts of obscene exposing of private parts in a lewd and lascivious manner.

Gulius was detained in the store parking lot after attempting to flee, according to the arresting officer, but officers were able to stop him once he headed onto Highway 25.

Gulius told cops he was “scared and that’s why he exited so quickly and that he may have exposed himself inside the store,” according to the report.

According to the report, Gulius was led back into the store and positively identified by the two women.

According to the story, “Gulius even apologized to one of the victims, a Walmart employee.”

Gulius allegedly exposed himself to at least two ladies in two different parts of the business, according to police.

“Just thought I’d kind of be flirty,” Gulius responded when asked why he did it, according to the police report.

Gulius claimed to be a Pickens County special education teacher, according to police.

The school district issued the following statement in response to Gulius’ arrest:

“The School District of Pickens County was made aware by the Travelers Rest Police Department of the arrest of an employee on Sunday, June 5, 2022. We can confirm the employee has served as a teacher at East End Elementary. The District cannot provide detailed comments related to personnel matters but can confirm that the teacher has not worked since May 27, 2022. Given the seriousness of the allegations involved, he has been placed on administrative leave, where he will remain, until an investigation has been completed.”

Both events involving Gulius at the shop were captured on Walmart security cameras, and officers were wearing body cams during their interactions with him, according to police.
