Amanda M. Oie, Grant Intermediate School teacher charged with stealing over $13,000 in funds from an education association in Marengo

According to authorities, a teacher has been detained and accused of stealing nearly $13,000 from a Marengo education association.

Amanda M. Oie, 26, was charged with stealing over $10,000, a Class 2 felony, in the 200 block of West Perry Road in Belvidere.

The charge originated from a police report submitted in December, according to Sgt. Andrew Kjellgren of the Marengo Police Department.

According to Kjellgren, Oie was a member of the Marengo Area Education Association (MAEA) and had access to the association’s funds.

Oie is accused of stealing $13,170 from MAEA, according to a criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court.

According to the allegation, Oie misappropriated the monies for personal gain.

According to Kjellgren, the theft took place between January and December 2020.

Other MAEA members found the theft, and a police report was filed with the Marengo Police Department, according to Kjellgren.
