According to school personnel documents obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request, the Henry Abbott Technical High School math teacher accused of sexually assaulting a student was fired approximately a week before his arrest last month.

Following an investigation into what state police described as “a possible inappropriate sexual relationship” between him and a student, Salvatore Maimone, 41, of Watertown, was arrested and charged on May 13 with second-degree sexual assault, second-degree stalking, and interfering with an officer/resisting arrest. On June 10, he will have a pre-trial hearing.

After his client’s Monday pre-trial court hearing, Maimone’s attorney, Gregory Klein of Alan Barry & Associates, had little to say.

“The court granted his bail with conditions, and his family came to bail him out,” he said, noting that Maimone’s next court date is June 10 and will most likely be a pre-trial hearing.

Principal Kevin Durkin at Henry Abbott Tech phoned police on May 3 to report that a female student “had made a disclosure of being involved in a sexual relationship with Salvatore Maimone,” according to police.

Maimone is a mathematics educator who has been with Abbott Tech for three years.

He physically touched her body during a fire exercise in spring 2021, according to the warrant, and began flirting with her in person at school during the fall 2021 term, she informed police.

The woman claims Maimone kissed her and invited her to meet him at his part-time work at a paint store in Danbury the next day after reportedly making advances, showing interest in seeing her, and “doing things to her,” according to the warrant.

According to the warrant, she went to see him and informed police that they simply talked at the time, but that they had intercourse on “many” occasions after that.

The pupil informed the authorities. Maimone kept her contact information on his phone under a fictitious identity and bought her gifts, including a ring, police claimed, which they later verified by checking Maimone’s phone and visiting the jewelry store where the ring was purchased.
