Authorities said an assistant principal at IDEA Pre-K was detained for allegedly punching a youngster aggressively.

According to Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar, Tara Coleman Hunter, 53, was detained at her residence by Bexar County Sheriff deputies after the child’s mother notified law authorities.

After the school allegedly refused to divulge all of the information surrounding the incident, the child’s mother filmed video of the child’s injuries and handed it to detectives on April 22.

When the boy was called to the assistant principal’s office at IDEA Amber Creek, the incident occurred. According to reports, the child became aggressive and attacked the assistant principal first.

Hunter allegedly retaliated by throwing the boy into a filing cabinet, hitting him in the head, and then punching him, according to police.

Sheriff Salazar said on the event, “As it appears now, this was handled totally wrongly.”

Hunter is being held in the Bexar County Jail on a $10,000 bond after being charged with injury to a child with intent to do bodily injury, a third-degree felony.

“We are aware of the claims made against an employee of IDEA Amber Creek,” the district said in a statement.

“As this is an active investigation, we cannot comment further. All further questions should be directed to the appropriate law enforcement agency.”
