Detectives claim a Miami Beach Senior High School math teacher shared pornography with a 16-year-old girl, wrote her sexually explicit messages, and sent her indecent photographs.

Paul Urquiza, 32, is now facing many accusations, including child pornography possession.

According to the arrest report, the investigation began in September 2021 when INTERPOL received a tip about a Miami-Dade County resident who was interacting inappropriately with a 16-year-old female.

According to reports, the girl was from England and met Urquiza online.

Urquiza was aware of the victim’s age, according to detectives. “He made increasing demands for images of the victim….in lingerie….but soon sought nude photographs,” according to the arrest affidavit.

Last June, the victim accidentally emailed a nude photo of herself to her mother, who alerted authorities.

Detectives tracked down Urquiza’s residence in Miami Beach, where he was arrested Wednesday morning, using digital forensics and an inquiry into an IP address.

“I am appalled that this educator has stained the good work of so many excellent educators,” said Interim Miami-Dade Police Director George Perez. “There is no room in society for child pornography and we will continue to educate our youth on the dangers surrounding them.”

Urquiza had been employed by Miami-Dade County Public Schools since 2017.

A spokesperson stated:

These allegations are disturbing and understandably upsetting; we will fully cooperate with partner law enforcement agencies in the investigation of this case. The District has initiated employment termination proceedings and he will be precluded from seeking future employment with this District.
