A former Clark County School District elementary special education teacher was arrested last week on suspicion of touching a youngster inappropriately.

According to jail records, Alfredo Caracena, 63, was arrested last Tuesday on two counts of lewdness with a kid and is still being held at the Clark County Detention Center as of Thursday evening. Caracena had been employed at Walter Brecken Elementary School, 1200 N. 27th Street, since 2020 but had just resigned, according to CCSD police.

Except for the accused victim, who was not named in the report, Caracena had dismissed all students from his class on April 4. According to the arrest report, she stayed behind to request juice and a candy bar.

“Does it feel nice?” Caracena questioned as she sat on his lap and he proceeded to rub her chest under her shirt as well as her lower privates. as stated in the arrest report Caracena then removed the student’s blouse and attempted to kiss her on the chest before pushing him away and walking away, according to authorities.

According to the arrest report, officers met with Principal Stanica Sretenovic, who notified Caracena the next day that he would be assigned to work from home due to an internal investigation. He later told Sretenovic, “I can no longer work with pupils,” and immediately after conversing with her, he presented his resignation.

According to the arrest report, a CCSDPD officer called the property manager of the apartment complex Caracena was living in on April 12 and informed him that Caracena had informed him that he would be moving out by April 15, “claiming a move to another state and change of employment.”

Officers visited with Caracena and interrogated him inside his unit shortly after speaking with the property manager. According to the arrest complaint, he informed investigators he resigned because of a “issue” with a female student who had laid across his lap to grab a juice on the other side of him.

According to the arrest report, Caracena stated he made a “error” when tickling the student — something he admitted he did with several of his students — because “he touched her [chest].” As a result, he informed the police he had quit. “It’s probable that his hands went under her top because she was moving around a lot when he was tickling,” he informed officers.

Caracena has a wife in the Philippines, according to the police report, and he had contemplated traveling to meet her after retiring. At a hearing in Las Vegas Justice Court on Monday, he forfeited his passport, according to court documents.

Caracena is slated to return to court on Monday for a status check, and a preliminary hearing is set for June 6.

T. Augustus Claus of the ATAC Law company represents Caracena, and as of Thursday evening, he has not responded to a request for comment.
