William Carawan Jr, Bell Elementary teacher arrested, accused of sexually abusing a child

A Bell Elementary teacher has been arrested and charged of sexually abusing a child under the age of 12 by the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office.

William Carawan Jr., 31, is charged with five counts of molestation and one act of sexual battery, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

They claim they learned about Mr. Carawan in late April and arrested him on Friday. According to a school district official, Carawan Jr. was placed on paid leave on April 19th.

Carawan was arrested by Columbia County deputies, according to the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office.

Carawan was employed six years ago, according to the school system, after passing a background check.

Law enforcement will continue to work with the school district.
