Police in Santa Ana said Friday that a man who served as a substitute teacher was detained earlier this month for allegedly sexually abusing four girls in the classroom.
According to Santa Ana police, Peter Morales, 69, reportedly raped the victims at Adams Elementary School at various times throughout the day.
The girls, who are between the ages of 8 and 9, notified school administrators that Morales had “inappropriately touched them,” according to police.
Before becoming a replacement, the suspect worked for the Santa Ana Unified School District for 18 years as a teacher.
He was arrested and charged with child molestation. He eventually posted $100,000 bail.
Morales was removed from the school and the district’s replacement list as soon as the charges were made public, according to an email issued to parents on Friday. Officials said they are “very concerned” about the situation and are helping with the inquiry.
“SAUSD will continue to do everything we can to provide a safe learning environment for all students and we appreciate the quick response by law enforcement in this matter,” the email read.
