According to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office, a Land O’ Lakes high school instructor was detained Tuesday on suspicion of having sex with a pupil.
Skyler Seidenberg, 30, is charged with felony soliciting or participating in sexual activity with a student, according to jail records. According to Steve Hegarty, a representative for Pasco County Schools, he was placed on administrative leave from Sunlake High School, 3023 Sunlake Blvd., where he was a social studies teacher.
Principal Kara Merlin told parents in an automated phone call Tuesday that the administration was notified Monday afternoon about a possible inappropriate relationship between a student and a teacher, and the school alerted the Sheriff’s Office.
According to an arrest affidavit, once the Sheriff’s Office contacted the student, the youngster said a deputy they had consensual intercourse with Seidenberg on three consecutive occasions at his residence. Seidenberg was confirmed as their teacher by the student.
Seidenberg told a deputy in a “managed” call that nothing transpired with the student until they reached the age of majority, but that “clearly it’s still probably unlawful or whatever, or whatever is going to happen” because he was the teen’s instructor, according to the affidavit.
Merlin informed the youngster’s parents about the arrest in an automated call, and the teen has been provided counseling assistance.
She claims she was told by the Sheriff’s Office that there is no evidence Seidenberg had sex with any other student.
“As you are aware, our Sunlake staff is outstanding and works hard every day to benefit our students, and their health, safety, and wellbeing is our highest priority,” Merlin said in the phone call. “That’s what makes this news all the more shocking and disappointing.”
Seidenberg has been employed by the Pasco County School District since 2019, Hegarty said.
