According to the district, a Kilgore ISD employee was fired this weekend after she was arrested on suspicion of having inappropriate contact with a high school student.
Monica Sanchez, 21, of Kilgore, who had previously worked as an ESL assistant, was arrested on accusations of assault causing bodily injury, sexual assault of a child, and three counts of improper educator-student contact.
A district administrator reported Friday evening that a Kilgore High School employee was arrested in an unrelated off-campus incident, according to a statement from Kilgore ISD. The Kilgore Police Department launched an inquiry into a possible improper relationship as a result of this incident.
Sanchez is now facing criminal charges as a result of the inquiry. Her employment was terminated after officials learned of her arrest, according to KISD.
Sanchez was arrested and placed in the Gregg County Jail before being released on a $26,000 bond.
According to Kilgore ISD, the police investigation is still underway, and the district will continue to cooperate with authorities.
