An assistant teacher at Maya High School was arrested on suspicion of offering a student money in exchange for indecent images on Wednesday.
After a 14-year-old student reported the incidents, Darangelo Balark, 33, was arrested.
According to court filings, Balark allegedly texted the student multiple times beginning in early May, asking money for obscene images of the student. The defendant allegedly offered the student up to $60 for sexual items in the chats.
Balark denied texting the youngster and claimed that another student at the school may have sent the requests through his phone.
According to court documents, the pupil told police that Balark had touched her improperly on several occasions.
According to prosecution filings, Balark said police the texts were sent from his phone by another pupil.
Balark was charged with one crime of sexual abuse and one count of assisting juveniles in delinquency.
His bond was set at $50,000, and he will appear in court on May 18.
