A band teacher who has worked for New Hanover County Schools for more than 20 years made his first court appearance on a dozen child sex crimes allegations.

On Tuesday afternoon, Peter Frank, 47, appeared in court via video conference.

Six counts of indecent liberties with a child and six counts of indecent liberties with a student by a teacher have been filed against him. Each count is punishable by up to 59 months in prison.

The crimes, according to investigators, began in 2003 and ended in 2019, with six victims. One of the victims, according to prosecutors, is a current student.

Due to a conflict of interest, District Attorney Ben David announced in court that he is passing the case over to the NC Attorney General’s Office.
