A Manor Independent School District teacher was arrested on Tuesday after punching a kid “several times,” according to the district.

Cedric Lloyd, 55, a special education and inclusion teacher since October 2017, was recognized by Manor ISD on Wednesday. From 1999 through 2017, he worked as a substitute. The student remained anonymous.

Lloyd was booked into the Travis County Jail around 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, according to online jail records. He was charged with third-degree criminal child injury. Lloyd’s bond was set at $5,000, and he was not represented by a counsel.

Manor ISD released a statement about what happened Tuesday night, saying it’s “committed to transparency.” The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. at Manor High School.

According to the district, a kid attempted to enter the building through a doorway when a teacher, now named as Lloyd, stopped him. Lloyd tried to persuade the student to use a different door, but he refused and pushed by him.

Lloyd “was then spotted punching the scholar many times,” according to the district.

In the corridor, a school district police officer witnessed the event and arrested him. Lloyd was chasing the student and “engaged in physical conflict,” according to the arrest warrant. Lloyd allegedly struck the student in the jaw, causing swelling, according to the warrant.

The Manor ISD Police Department is conducting the investigation, which is still ongoing.
