After being accused of beating a 7-year-old student with autism, a teacher’s assistant at a north New Jersey school has been charged.
According to a representative for the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, Corey D. Foushee, who works at Quitman Street Community School in Newark, was arrested Tuesday and charged with two charges of aggravated assault and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
The charges originate from troubling allegations made by the child’s mother in a notice of claim filed against the Newark Board of Education. The allegation, which is a preliminary to a lawsuit, claims that Foushee “viciously assaulted” the kid on April 13.
According to the newspaper chain, the youngster told his mother that Foushee pulled him to the floor, dragged him, and then pushed him down the steps. According to the story, the mom took her son to the doctor, who advised her to contact the police.
The boy had bruises on his back, chin, and limbs, as well as a tooth injury that was bleeding, according to officers. According to the notice of claim, the claimed assault was witnessed by a teacher.
The mother intends to file a $2.5 million lawsuit against the school board. Requests for comment from her lawyers and the police were not immediately returned on Thursday.
“Cannot and does not comment on current litigation or any incident involving an individual kid,” the school board responded.
