A felony sex crime against a juvenile student has been charged against a Taylor County public secondary school teacher who is also a church pastor.

Samuel Paul Myers, 43, of Flemington, was charged with sexual abuse by a parent, guardian, custodian, or anyone in a position of trust to a minor by Taylor Sheriff’s Sgt. Edwin Delgado.

According to the lawsuit, Myers improperly touched the juvenile through his clothing. According to the lawsuit, the wrongdoing took place on school grounds.

“It was also discovered during the course of the investigation that the defendant had frequent social communications with the victim outside of normal school hours and recommended procedure, at reasonably inappropriate times of the evenings and/or nights, and without the knowledge and/or consent of the victim’s parent(s),” Delgado claimed.

If convicted, Myers may face 10-20 years in jail, as well as a lifetime sex registration requirement and a 50-year supervised release sentence.

Christina Miller, Taylor’s superintendent, was queried about Myers’ status in the school system.

“This is a personnel matter, and specifics cannot be disclosed,” she replied. “Taylor County Schools’ No. 1 priority is the safety of our students. When notified of possible issues, we took appropriate immediate action to ensure all students’ safety.”

Samuel Paul Myers continues to be listed on the Taylor County Middle School website as an active teacher.
