A teacher at Mountain Pointe High School has been charged with having an inappropriate relationship with a pupil.
According to Mountain Pointe High Principal Tomika Banks, the school was informed that one of their teachers, Mohamed Elnounw, had been arrested as a result of an inquiry.
Banks went on to say that the person hasn’t been on campus since April 7 and will not be returning.
“Please rest assured that the safety of our students is always our first priority. We take all allegations seriously and thoroughly investigate claims in collaboration with Phoenix PD. In this situation, we are working closely with our assigned SRO (Student Resource Officer) as well as Phoenix PD,” stated Banks.
Elnounw had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old victim while teaching in the Tempe Union High School District, according to court filings.
According to court documents, the victim told her mother on April 6 that she had been in a relationship with a school staff member since September 2021, when he sexually attacked her.
The teacher was identified by the victim as Elnounw, and the relationship began when the two discussed personal issues and grew from there.
It was also claimed that the teacher suggested obtaining additional credit for inappropriate favors on occasion.
Elnounw grew jealous and hostile toward the victim when the relationship ended, according to the victim.
Mohamed Elnounw is facing six charges of sexual abuse.
