According to the Norfolk County District Attorney, a former Brookline elementary school teacher is accused of raping a student between 2016 and 2018.

Larry Chen, 36, of Newton, was arrested on a warrant for aggravated statutory rape, rape of a minor under the age of 16, and indecent assault and batter on a person under the age of 14.

Chen was 31 years old at the time and taught social studies at Heath Elementary School to the victim. The victim said she was sexually abused twice in high school, the first time in 6th grade and the second time in 7th grade.

The majority of the alleged crimes are thought to have occurred in a classroom setting. When the first attack occurred, the victim was 12 years old.

From September 2013 until his resignation in 2018, Chen worked for Brookline Public Schools. Linus Guillory, Superintendent of Schools, said the claims were brought to his attention today.

In a statement, Guillory said, “while the judicial process plays out, we are nonetheless deeply concerned by these allegations and are committed to providing our full cooperation with the investigation into these charges. Our paramount concern is always the safety and well-being of our students, and school counselors are available to students as needed to provide support. We have shared additional resources with PSB families. We encourage anyone who believes they have information about this matter to reach out to Brookline Police at 617-730-2222.”

The Brookline Police Department received a report alleging sexual assaults on March 10, 2022, and an investigation was immediately initiated. The victim and the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office were interviewed by SAIN Tuesday, April 11. Chen was arrested as a result of the information presented in the interview.

He was arraigned in Brookline District Court April 12th.
