Jose Flores-Montelongo, 54, was arrested on April 26, 2022, after the victim, now 20, told authorities about a series of sexually connected episodes that began in 2014 when she was 13 years old and in the seventh grade at a local middle school. According to the victim, the assaults lasted until mid-2018.
According to police papers , the victim stated that she would stay after school to meet with Jose Flores-Montelongo after everyone had left for the day. She claimed the two would hug and kiss frequently. Flores-Montelongo became more sexual in nature in 2015, according to the victim.
The alleged sexual assaults took place in an office in the main band room with a window and a door. Flores-Montelongo would cover the window with paper, according to the victim. Other events, according to the victim, occurred in a closet in the band room, where Flores-Montelongo may have left DNA evidence.
RPD’s Forensic Investigation Team investigated the sites described by the victim on April 26, 2022, and confirmed the presence of DNA evidence on the walls.
Flores-Montelongo admitted to being with the victim after school on many occasions and indicated he may have kissed her on the forehead during an interview with police. Flores-Montelongo blamed other youngsters and denied having intercourse with the victim when asked about the DNA found in the band room.
According to the police record, later in the interrogation, he revealed he would fondle himself while gazing at a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Magazine in the band room. He also stated that he and his wife would engage in sexual activity in his office.
Flores-Montelongo was detained and lodged into the Washoe County Jail after the interview. He faces five counts of sexual assault against a child, two counts of lewdness with a kid, and sexual behavior between a teacher and a student.
He is being kept in custody on a $500,000 bond. The Washoe County District Attorney’s Office advocated aggressively for a $2 million bail based on public safety concerns, but the request was denied.
The alleged attack took place at an undisclosed school, according to police.
Flores-Montelongo is now listed as the Orchestra Director in Pine Middle School’s Staff Directory on the Washoe County School District’s website.
