Thomas Deane, Former Canterbury School teacher arrested for lewd and lascivious behavior on minor

According to Lee County Jail records, a former Canterbury School teacher and assistant lacrosse coach was arrested and charged with sexual contact with a minor on Wednesday morning.

Thomas Deane was arrested just before 11 a.m. on charges of lewd and lascivious behavior on a victim under the age of 16 and a second charge of lewd and lascivious behavior on a victim between the ages of 12 and 16, according to court records.

According to an arrest record, deputies began investigating 30-year-old Thomas in February after the mother of a child in Bonita Springs reported her son as a victim of a sex offense.

Deane was introduced to the victim over Grindr in December, according to the victim. According to the arrest report, the two began chatting via Snapchat before meeting and having a sexual encounter.

Thomas worked at the school as a social science and history teacher as well as an assistant lacrosse coach. Since his arrest, his bio page has been taken down.

The school’s head, Rick Kirschner, wrote to the Canterbury community to alert them of the arrest.

The minor involved, according to Kirschner, was not a Canterbury student.

“Law enforcement told us this morning that a member of our Upper School teachers was being investigated for a severe crime, and he was arrested.” Despite the fact that law enforcement has assured us that the incident did not involve any of our children, I want everyone to know that the safety of our students is and will continue to be our first priority. This person is no longer employed at this company. “We defer to law enforcement for any further comment given the nature of this case,” Kirschner said.

Thomas was no longer working at the institution, according to Katie Tanner, director of strategic communications.
